According to a recent Angus Reid poll, 60% of Canadians said that First Nations communities should be governed by the same rules and systems as other Canadians. Here’s the issue: Mark Carney’s Liberals think that First Nations communities shouldn’t be a part of the Canadian system, and they’ve made that clear with their adoption of their Indigenous justice strategy.
The poll from Angus Reid reveals a reality that is often overlooked by the mainstream media and politicians alike. Canadians are beginning to get fed up with the never ending demands of “reconciliation” – a concept that has no defined end goal and costs Canadians billions of dollars annually. The poll showed that 45% of Canadians think that First Nations should have “no special status that other Canadians don’t have” and 45% of Canadians believe First Nations would be better off integrating more into Canadian society.
This is a stark contrast from the view that Carney’s Liberals hold. You see, in March of 2025, Carney’s Liberals released their Indigenous Justice Strategy. The strategy from Carney’s Liberals says that they will seek to “advance the priorities of First Nations and Métis communities to reclaim jurisdiction over the administration of justice.” In fact, the government is promoting the strategy by saying it will “support the revitalization of indigenous laws and legal orders.”
To put this in perspective, 60% of Canadians believe there should be no special rules for First Nations but the Liberal government? They want to revitalize First Nations laws and legal orders. Simply put, Mark Carney’s Liberals want to help create two legal systems in Canada, and Canadians aren’t yet aware.
I don’t see how Canada can be united under two legal systems. I also don’t understand how the Liberals can be so ideologically driven that they would risk the unity of the entire country in order to score more points with the woke left. Then again, this is Canada, and politics here only make sense when you realize the more absurd it is, the more likely it is to happen.
